My Brother Knights:

I hope you and your families are recovering well from the hurricanes Katrina and Rita, The physical and emotional devastations resulting from the storms were difficult to bear.

Congratulations to our Gumbo cook-off team that finished in FIRST PLACE at both the DISTRICT and the AREA competitions. Anyone who tasted the gumbo knows that the results were never in doubt. “Thank you” to Tom Biggio, Mike Bernard, Jay Helluin, Ron Geauthreaux, Billy Renton, George Probst, and Larry Fertitta for your time and efforts.

The CHRISTmas Shopping Spree will be held at the Super K-Mart, Mandeville, on Saturday, December 3rd, 2005. As you know, we will need all the help we can get, so please be there at 7:00 AM so that we will be organized by the time the children arrive.

Our Council will begin a mentoring program to help all new 1st. Degree Knights understand more fully the happenings at our Council meetings and our activities. The mentors will be our Trustees. During the meetings you will probably hear mentors whispering to our 1st Degrees; don’t be alarmed, they are merely explaining the goings on. Additionally, at the 1st. Degree exemplification, the new Knights will be required to sign up for at least 6 different activities during their first 12 months. After their first 12 months there will be no additional required activities, but hopefully they will feel more involved and they will volunteer on their own.

You can reach me at 985/727-1358 to provide me with ideas, suggestions, or criticisms.

Vivat Jesu!

CHAPLAINS REPORT                                    Msgr. J. L. Chotin 985/ 623-3632

                                                                    jlchotin@charter.net

My Brother Knights

I hope that all of you survived Katrina with that which is most precious, your lives!

Anything is just material. Katrina delivered a severe blow to our area and now is the time to start building again. It won’t be easy, but it can be happen because of who we are. This storm brought out the worse in many people, but more importantly, it brought out the BEST in most……….people becoming painfully aware of their brothers who were less fortunate. This can only serve to make us stronger in so many ways. I am sure that most of us suffered loss, some greater  and some less, but loss never the less.

We have already seen the ‘blame game’ starting, but let’s face it, what will this change? It happened, it was ugly, devastating, maybe we COULD have been better prepared, but it happened! Now we pick up the pieces and move on. Some of us are without phones, power, food and water, put even as I write this crews from all over are working to repair and restore what can be restored. I would imagine Patience, Faith and Love are the Keys to a bright future.

I’m sure you have heard it being asked, “Why did God let this happen?” I ask WHY are we surprised? Over the past number of years we have seem organizations seeking to have God excluded from our daily lives, our Schools, our Courts, even our private lives.

Maybe HE got the message. It’s food for thought, not that I think it would be easy to get GOD to ignore His Creation……..BUT IT IS FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

Vivat Jesu!

The Adoration Chapel is looking for a few good people. Please pray for vocations and sign the vocation adoration sign-up book. Pray for our priests. Mass is celebrated Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9 AM and Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 PM in OLL church……...…..….A mid-week

Visit may be just what is needed to give peace a chance to help solve some of the challenges of the day.

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Thursday, December 8, 2005, is a Holy Day of Obligation. Wear your name badge when you attend Mass.  On Friday the 9th. of December 2005 is the Feast of  a new Mexican Saint, St. Juan Diego, to whom the Blessed Mother appeared in 1531 near Mexico City.  On Monday, 12th. December 2005 we celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe.  The birth of Christ is celebrated on Sunday December 25 this year. CHRISTmas is the day to attend Mass and rejoice for our salvation.

Fr. John has added a daily weekday Mass at 9 AM in the Church, thanks to Fr. Kenny’s’ arrival to Our Lady of the Lake. We welcome him enthusiastically.

Vivat Jesu!

    Paul

My Brother Knights we morn the death of Brother John M. Schlenker,Sr. who made the badges for us, and many others.

This does no mean that we will have to find someone else to get the badges from. NO, John’s daughter is going to take over the business. It may take her a week, or so,  to get up to full steam so we’ll just have to be patient.  I’ve offered to help her as much as I can.

“Lord, you know better than I know myself that I am growing older and will some day be old. Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every occasion. Release me from craving to straighten out everybody’s affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody; helpful but not bossy. Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point. Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They are increasing, and the love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet, for a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places, and talents in unexpected people. And give me, O Lord, the grace to tell them so. Amen,”

COUNCIL ACTIVITIES                                                             Mike Bernard   674-9746

                                                                                                            mbernard@bellsouth.net

The month of October has historically been a very busy month for our Council. This one was no exception. Considering the displacements and reassignments of several of our Brothers, our Council continues to maintain a very active presence in our Church and community. There is no doubt that we inspire others by our actions.

A BIG THANK YOU  goes out to all fellow Brothers, wives, and family members who worked at the Beverage Booth before, during, and after the OLL Festival of the Lake. Everyone who stepped up to our counter was well served by cold hands and warm hearts. It was a great success and our efforts were most generously rewarded by OLL. “Tip” collections for Hurricane Relief  were $1,000. That’s very comparable to last year, even though the Fair was shortened by one day!

Good news from the Gumbo team! The drought is over! We’ve placed FIRST at BOTH THE DISTRICT AND AREA levels and now it’s on to the Statewide competition in Lafayette! The “WINNER” was served at the November meeting. That brings up a very good point:

The easiest way to participate in our great Council is to come to the meetings. Not to belabor the point, but that is the best place to find out, first hand, what’s going on and get involved. Always the third Monday of each month. Make the effort….you won’t regret it.      And the food is good too.

Vivat Jesu!

                                                                                                                  rentonw@bellsouth.net

Mark your calendars for Saturday, 3rd. December, 2005 which will be the day we conduct our Annual Children’s CHRISTmas Shopping Spree.  We will need a large number of Brother Knights, and their families, to help facilitate the children as they shop at The Big K-Mart in Mandeville and join us for the wrapping of the presents and refreshments in the OLL cafeteria.

This is our biggest charitable event of the year and well worth your time and effort. Please try to participate in this most worthy of causes. You’ll enjoy your CHRISTmas even more.

When I first joined the Council I was told that if I participated in only event during the year, this should be the one. Please help on Saturday, December 3rd, 2005 at the Big K-Mart on Highway 190 in Mandeville.

Brother Knights,

Many thanks to all Brothers who participated in the Fall Membership Blitz. The most effective way of recruiting members is still by personal contact. TRASH BASH  - Due to hurricane Katrina, the City of Mandeville is still not cleaned up as it was pre Katrina. Public Works has all the prisoners from the Mandeville area in the Slidell area for the next few weeks. Public Works will contact me when we will be able to continue to clean up in our designated area as the prisoners usually pick up the big stuff before we get there.  We did deliver meals to the shut-ins the first week of October 2005. If anyone would like to be a substitute driver during  the year, for a week or a day, please contact me. It is very rewarding to see the faces of the elderly when we deliver these meals.

HAPPY AND HOLY HOLIDAYS!

I would like to extend to you my sincere best wishes for a holy and happy holiday season. I imagine you feel the same way about the Christmas season as I do ---- such a peaceful, happy time.

But just take one moment to ask yourself what your family’s Christmas would be like if you weren’t there. This year, why not give them the most precious gift of all – a life insurance plan that will allow them to have, always, the kind of Christmas you want them to have.

We have plans that will guarantee income for your family’s future  --  for just a few dollars a month.

Enjoy this season of celebration. Please call me for an appointment and we will discuss a gift of security and protection from you to your loved ones.
