Dennis B. Haggerty was State Deputy 1908 - 1909
 |
State
Deputy Haggerty now took over the helm of Columbianism in Louisiana. In
June, 1908, he reappointed all three District Deputies: L. A. Douglas,
District No. l; W. J. Sandoz, District No. 2, and George H. Cambre,
District No. 3. He continued the zealous efforts of his predecessor to
spread the order in Louisiana, and his labors were successful in
instituting four new councils - Monroe No. 1337, Morgan City No. 1373,
Natchitoches No. 1357, and St. Tammany of Covington No. 1380.

| This
was a significant achievement, because it established the order finally in
two sections of the state where thus far there had been no councils
organized the Monroe area and the Florida Parishes. Within six years this
statewide establishment had been effected, a remarkable achievement not equaled
by any other organization of Catholics. It manifested very vividly the
filling of a need among Catholic laymen. With this statewide spread of
councils and the solid organization of the State Council, the order was on
its way to the rendering of many more services to the Church and civic
life in Louisiana. |
