Edward L. Bonnet III was Louisiana Knights of Columbus State Deputy 1994 - 1996

Edward Bonnet, III was born November 8, 1935. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1971 and has served in many capacities through the years. Ed graduated from De LaSalle High School in 1953, and attended Tulane University.

Edward married Virginia Lott, who is from Vidalia,  in 1955. They have 4 wonderful children, Keith, Chris, Victoria, and Gerry. 

Edward was employed by the U. S. Gypsum Company and retired in 1998 after 42 years of service. He served our country in the Coast Guard.

Edward L. Bonnet, III was initiated in July 1971 into the order and immediately served Slidell Council as Youth Activity Chairman; aided in reinstitution the Slidell Columbian Squire Circle #1723; while Youth Director he developed a program that recognized the outstanding athlete in

Slidell on a monthly basis, a program that was soon followed by other organizations in Slidell; has served Slidell Council by holding various Chairmanships and Offices including Grand Knight two years, presently serving as 1 yr Trustee of his Council. During his two terms as Grand Knight, Slidell Council received the Star Council Award; and Slidell Council during his two years as Grand Knight finished second and third in the competition for the State Deputy Award.

Brother Edward L. Bonnet, III has been a 4th Degree member since 1973, served his Assembly in three offices including Faithful Navigator, and has served his Assembly as purser. He served the 4th Degree in Louisiana District I as Master during the two years of 1980 - 1982.

 Edward L. Bonnet, III has faithfully served his church accordingly in the capacity of being an usher and closely working with his parish priest and other priests in Slidell to see how the Knights of Columbus can aid the churches, and civic organizations.

 Brother Edward L. Bonnet, III has continued to serve the State faithfully these past years as Co‑Chairman Bishop Greco Memorial Trust Fund, Chairman of the Council Visitation program, and as one of our elected State Officers. 

 

 

NEW ORLEANS, La -Funeral services for Edward L. Bonnet III were held on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Metairie, La., with the Revs. Francis Carabello and Adrian Hall officiating. Internment was in the St. Louis Cemetery Number One.

Eddie Bonnet, 70, of Slidell died on Saturday, December 24, 2005 at his son's residence in Slidell.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Edward L. Bonnet, Jr., and Sue Ellis Bonnet; his sibling Sandra B. Oulliber; and by his son Gerald Vick Bonnet.

Eddie was born November 8, 1935, in New Orleans, La. Eddie graduated from De LaSalle High School and attended Tulane University and was an avid Green Wave and New Orleans Saints fan until the end.

Mr. Bonnet was employed by the United States Gypsum Corporation for 43 years and retired as an Asst. Superintendent in 1998.

Bonnet's desire to reside near the water prompted the Bonnet's move to Slidell in 1962. As soon as Eddie arrived in Slidell, Buddy became involved in civic projects and youth athletics.

Ed married Virginia Lott, Ferriday, in 1955 and they parented four Bonnet children; Keith, Christopher, Victoria and Gerry.

Mr. Bonnet was very active in religious and civic affairs in Louisiana. Eddie led the Louisiana Knights of Columbus as State Deputy from 1994 to 1996 and as Master of the Fourth Degree from 1980 to 1982.

Eddie's love for the Knights of Columbus was only surpassed by his love to coach the kids. Mr. Bonnet was instrumental in the creation of a monthly award in Slidell, which recognized the efforts of a local youth in the area of athletics. Coach Bonnet was loved by the youth of Slidell as he cared for their well being and their success in the game of life.

Bonnet was initiated into the Knights of Columbus in July 1971 and immediately became involved as the Youth Activity Chairman of Slidell Council 2732. He also was instrumental in the reinstitution of the Slidell Columbian Squires Circle 1723. Bonnet also served as Grand Knight of Slidell Council 2732 and during his two year stint, Council 2732 finished second and third in the State Deputy Award scoring.

Buddy Bonnet is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia; two sons, Keith Bonnet and Chris Bonnet; one daughter, Virginia Bonnet, Slidell; his brother, Richard B. Bonnet, Slidell; 6 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In the baseball game of life, Ed and Virginia have gone into extra innings. The loss of Gerry, Victoria's accident, Bonnet family difficulties, Eddie's health decline, Virginia's health issues. And in the bottom of the 12th, the Bonnets fleeing Hurricane Katrina.

Now Buddy is safely home!
