Gomez is presently governmental affairs liaison (part
time) for the St. Charles Parish School Board. He retired from full time
employment with the school system in 1991 after serving as a teacher,
coach, supervisor, assistant and finally associate superintendent over the
previous 35 years. Member or officer in numerous professional, civic and
church organizations.
Irvon was recruited by his brother, the late Jerry
Gomez, into St. Charles Council 2409 in 1957. While serving as grand
knight, "Cookie" led the council's move from 74th to 14th place
in standings. He held several state chairmanships and served as state
advocate, treasurer and secretary before his election as state deputy.
"As state deputy, I was particularly proud of
ushering in a renewed enthusiasm for membership growth and new council
development. During our administration, we achieved our highest net
membership since 1955, and added the greatest number of councils since the
1960s. In retrospect, I'm proud our team was able to provide the impetus
for award winning growth in later administrations. Implementing the new
ceremonials during my tenure was memorable, as well as the outstanding
year long Centennial celebration chaired by Easton Pitre. One program
which means a great deal to me is the Past State Deputies' Award which was
established during my administration and continues today."
