The Bishop Charles P. Greco Memorial
Foundation was founded in 1987 by Past State Deputy, Thomas McQuire,
after the death of Bishop Greco as a means to help vocations here in
Louisiana in Bishop Greco's honor. Bishop Greco served the Supreme
Council as Supreme Chaplain for over 26 years and the Louisiana
State Council as State Chaplain for over 32 years.
The first chairman was Past State Deputy
Easton Pitre and the goal was to raise one million dollars in a core
amount to be invested so that the interest could be used each year
in support of vocations. In 1989, Dr. Ernie Cook, Past State Deputy
and former Supreme Board of Director was chairman, with a plan to
grow the core amount. The Foundation was incorporated on June 7,
1993 and the core amount grew to almost 400 thousand dollars,
through the memorial card program, support from many Knights and the
Louisiana State Council YEP program.
In 2004, under the leadership of the new
chairman of the Board, Past State Deputy David Bakeler, the
foundation obtained it's non profit ID with the Internal Revenue
Service. Then in 2006, with help of the Louisiana State Council, the
goal of over one million dollars was reached. The next goal is to
continue to grow the core investment to two million dollars and use
the interest earned to support vocations. To date over one half
million dollars has been given in support of vocations.
The Board of Directors is all Past State
Deputy's living in Louisiana and the Elected State Officers, who
meet two times a year, one to elect the officers of the foundation
and the second to handle the disbursement of funds. The Foundation
membership is all Brother Knights of the Louisiana Knights of
Columbus, in good standing and they meet each year in May.
The memorial card program is the main source
of growth and is supported by the many Knights and their
Families here in Louisiana. Past State
Deputy, David Bakeler is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and
the Officers of the Foundation are David B. Bakeler, Past State
Deputy, President, Ben Davidson, State Secretary, Secretary and
Steve Thomas, Past State Deputy, serving as Treasurer.
Any and all donations should be sent to Steve
Thomas, Foundation Treasurer.
